About

Joey Killingsworth was born the day after Halloween in 1971 to Bobby Killingsworth, a.k.a. Cousin Bo Jack, of the Eddie Bond TV Show, so Joey has music in his blood, to say the least. At the age of 15, Joey’s first performance was playing drums with his daddy at a music festival in Mississippi.  He was so impressive that he ended up also backing the legendary Jumpin' Gene Simmons of "Haunted House" fame. But this would not be the last great first for this budding star. After playing around town in local bands Grendel Crane and Mung and honing his performance skills playing in rockabilly legend Eddie Bond's band, Joey Started working on his own kind of music. In 2004 for Joey put out his first EP called “Gone to Stay” under the name Joey Killingsworth.  With the mild success of his first attempt and a little “inspiration” it led to the first and self titled Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre cd which included a song that defined the rebel, cowpunk, hillbilly hellfire sound, that would turn heads and astonish crowds for years to come.
As the story goes, after getting a bad review at work one day Mr. Killingsworth, as he does, took his aggression out on paper.  Soon after its release, The Rock 103 Morning Show got their hand on a copy of “Quittin Time”, and could not get enough of it. After a 7 week run, played every morning on the Mid-South's oldest and largest rock radio station, the band with the long name that few could say right and even fewer could spell, was a hit.

Due to the success of the single “Quittin Time”, Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre was formed.  In 2005 they played their first gig opening for Shooter Jennings.  Since then they have travelled the country and have shared the stage with such diverse artists as David Allen Coe, HR of Bad Brains, Agent Orange, Jucifer, Green Jello, Unknown Hinson, Black Oak Arkansas, Jim Dickinson, Rev. Horton Heat and many many others.  Along the way Joecephus& The GJM has had a revolving cast of some of the best talent in the mid south, and has put out 5 CDs including the aforementioned Self Titled CD  (2005), Smothered and Covered (2007), Tator Twats (2009), Hell or High Water (2010), and Arockalypse Now (2012).  You can hear songs from most of these CDs on Sirius XM, Shooter Jennings Electric Rodeo show, along with a slew of independent and online radio station throughout the world.  Today Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre consist of Joey Killingsworth on guitar and vocals, Brian Costner on bass and vocals, and Daryl Stephens on drums, and are in preproduction for their next CD, due out in later 2014.

Currently Joey is also playing in the Memphis bands Super Witch, who just released their first cd called "The Sun Ep" and are in production for their first full length Lp and in Grendel Crane who are finishing their first cd at this time.
